North Devon events this September:

Barnstaple Fair and Carnival

19th – 22nd September 2018

Held in the town since 1931, Barnstaple Fair is the biggest in the South West! Expect fun games, rides and food - all the classic fairground attractions! It will open in the afternoons and light up the sky throughout the evening.

Barnstaple Carnival takes place on the afternoon of the final day (22nd) before the fair continues late into the night and usually attracts up to 20,000 people overall. It's a must-see as the fancy dress, musical instruments and grand floats make their way around the centre of the town. It all starts from 2.45pm with the children's procession and finishes at 8pm with fireworks!

Appledore Book Festival

21st - 29th September 2018

The lovely village of Appledore hosts this hugely popular literary festival. It has become the biggest cultural festival in Devon, attracting brilliant authors, speakers and artists year after year.

Michael Palin, Anthony Horowitz, Michael Morpurgo, Simon Mayo and Kate Mosse are this year's special guests, giving talks on their work and chatting with the audience about writing. Festival patron Jeremy Vine returns too.

Other events take place too, featuring up and coming artists. Plus there are unique moments, such as crabbing off the pier.

See the Appledore Book Festival website for all the details.

RHS Gardens Rosemoor Real Ale, Gin and Music Fest

28th - 39th September 2018

RHS Gardens Rosemoor is a must visit attraction any time of the year. 2,000 plants cover acres of various gardens and natural landscapes, the perfect setting for talks, guides and mini-festivals.

Such as their Ale, Gin and Music Fest - a fun weekend of live music, delicious food and a wide range of beverages!

Taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, highlights include:

  • Live music on Friday and Saturday night, and on Sunday afternoon
  • A delicious hog roast
  • Their award-winning restaurant will be open as normal for a wide variety of beverages and food throughout the festival

Sunday will be a family fun day:

Things to do in North Devon

Not visiting us around these dates? No need to fret as there's an abundance of places to visit and things to do in North Devon.

We'll highlight a key attraction we think our guests will enjoy, before leading on to further wonderful things...

Dartington Crystal Visitor Centre

Dartington Crystal has developed and grown to be the UK’s leading name in crystal and glass, selling high-end glass items to homes and businesses around the world.

In their Torrington factory home is their Visitor Centre and factory tour. And we highly recommend a visit.

You can shop for crystal items, learn all about the glass making process, take a factory tour, dine and drink gin and create unique gifts in glass moulds!

The centre offers a wonderful opportunity to discover first-hand the art of cutting glass and creating fine English crystal - an experience for all to enjoy.

There's free entry to Dartington for Imperial Hotel guests when staying with us this September - speak to reception during your stay for details.
